How AI Room Design Works
From photo upload to 4 professional redesigns — here's exactly what happens step by step, and why it works.
Upload your room photo
Take a photo with your phone or use any existing image. JPG, PNG, and HEIC are all supported up to 20 MB. The AI works best with natural light and a straight-on angle — but it handles dark rooms, cluttered spaces, and unusual angles too.
Tip: A corner-to-corner shot from a doorway captures the most room context.
Take the style quiz (optional but recommended)
60 secondsAnswer 6 questions about how you live — your color preferences, clutter tolerance, natural vs. bold choices. The AI matches you to one of 40+ design styles. Users who take the quiz report results that feel 60% more "them" than those who skip it.
Tip: Takes 60 seconds. Completely skippable. Dramatically better results.
The AI analyzes your room
~2 secondsOur model reads your room's geometry: wall angles, window placement, furniture footprint, lighting conditions, floor material. It builds an internal 3D understanding of the space before generating anything.
Four redesigns are generated
8–12 secondsThe AI generates 4 distinct versions of your room in the chosen style. Each takes 8–12 seconds total. The variations differ in furniture arrangement, color emphasis, and accessory density — not just surface texture swaps.
Tip: Download the one you like before trying another style — history is saved on Pro.
Shop what you see
Every generated design includes shoppable furniture links. Tap any item to see alternatives at multiple price points from real retailers. The AI matches based on style similarity, not exact replicas — so you get options that actually fit.
Technical questions
Does the AI change the room structure (walls, windows, floors)?
No. Our AI preserves the geometry of your room — the position of windows, doors, and walls stays the same. It redesigns the elements you can actually change: furniture, textiles, lighting fixtures, wall colors, and decorative objects.
What photo angle works best?
A corner-to-corner shot that captures the full room works best. This gives the AI the most context. Straight-on shots (from a doorway or corner) produce the most accurate furniture placement. Avoid fisheye lenses — they distort room proportions.
Why does the AI give 4 variations instead of 1?
Design is subjective. Four variations let you compare different furniture arrangements, color weights, and lighting treatments — all within the same style. Most users find their preferred option is the second or third, not the first.
How long does generation actually take?
Each generation takes 8–12 seconds for standard resolution. Pro plan users get priority processing — results in 4–6 seconds.
Can I use AI room design on a room I've already decorated?
Absolutely — many users upload their current room to see how different styles would look, even if they're happy with what they have. It's a great way to answer "what if" questions before committing to any purchase.
